Tennis playing model and media magnet Anna Kournikova has reunited with former world number one, Martina Hingis, to return to Wimbledon as the Dream Team in the Ladies’ Invitational Doubles Draw. The Russian – Swiss entry will play British veterans Anne Hobbs and Samantha Smith today on Court Two in a featured match.

During the 1990’s, the Dream Team was one of the game’s most respected doubles teams. The pair won two Grand Slam Doubles titles and was named the 1999 World Tennis Association’s Doubles Team of the Year.

Both players are excited to return to the All England Club. “Anna and I have had a lot of success together and look forward to being reunited wit her a Wimbledon. Having won singles titles in 1997 and doubles in 1996 and 1998, I am excited about returning to the place where I have had some of the best memories of my career,” said Hingis.

Kournikova agreed. “I’m so excited to be returning to the UK to play doubles with Martina again. This tournament has always held a special place in my heart, and it will be a great honor to play on the courts of Wimbledon again. I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun.”

Kournikova is a two time Grand Slam Doubles Champion, a former number one ranked junior player, a number one ranked WTA doubles player and the number 8 ranked WTA singles player. Anna was the second woman player to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in her debut at the event.

Hingis is a five-time Grand Slam singles titleholder and nine-time Grand Slam Doubles Champion. Martina holds five Grand Slam singles titles and nine Doubles titles. She remains the youngest player to achieve the coveted WTA number one ranking. Hingis holds three Australian Open titles and at the age of 17 became just the fourth woman in history to win all four Grand Slam titles in the same year.
