Sam Querrey of the U.S. celebrates a pointSam Querrey ranked 31 in the world entered the semi final of Regions Morgan Keegan Championship ATP 500 event on Friday avenging his defeat to Roddick last week at San Jose beating the top seed and defending champion 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. Querrey had lost to Roddick at the same stage last year.

Querrey broke Roddick’s serve at 5-5 in the first set and then served out the set with the help of three aces. After winning the set, he faced a breakpoint in his opening service game in the second set just like in the first set. This time he was unable to defend the breakpoint and Roddick was able to capitalise on the break to win the set 6-3.

Roddick dropped his serve in the beginning of the third set when he blew a 40-15 lead with some simple unforced errors and then double faulted at break point. He then smashed his racquet getting a warning for the same. He was frustrated and questioned two service calls in the next game on Querrey’s serve.

He then lost focus and seemed mentally fatigued after playing some tough matches in last few days. After losing to Verdasco in final, he came through tough night matches against Blake and Lu Yen Hsun.

Querrey will now face Latvian Ernests Gulbis who beat 5th seed Tomas Berdych 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-3) after coming back from 2-5 down in the final set.

Philipp Petzchner of Germany beat Lukas Lacko in a topsy turvy affair winning 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. After winning the second set, Lacko seemed to have the momentum but dropped his serve after a tough second game in the third set.

He will now face John Isner who prevailed 6-1, 7-6(9-7) against Ivo Karlovic. The battle between the two tallest men on the tour produced some big serves but also two breaks for Isner as he won the first set 6-1.
