There is some controversy about Serena Williams, who is the defending champion at Wimbledon’s at-large seeding in the seven spot.

Serena Williams will have a chance to gradually work her way to the quarterfinals where she will most likely face tenacious French Open Champion Li Na in a tortoise and hare pairing.

Serena Williams will begin with a match against peppy Aravane Rezai and might meet Simona Halep in round two. Then the going picks up dramatically as Marion Bartoli should cruise to the third round. Bartoli is in form and although not a problem for Serena in the past, Marion now has a more divers game. If Serena escapes Bartoli, she will probably meet the third seed Li Na or Aggie Radwanska in the quarterfinals.

At the top of the first page, Caroline Wozniacki looks to have a clear path to the fourth round. German fireballer Julia Goerges has been upsetting heavy favorites like Wozniacki in recent outings. Her power serve should do well on the grass. Wozniacki will meet the German in the fourth round.

In the quarterfinals, the Wozniacki – Goerges winner will play the Stosur – Sharapova winner. Stosur will need her sharp serve to overcome Sharapova who came close in Paris and is playing the best tennis since she returned to the tour. It looks like a Sharapova – Serena Williams matchup in the semis and the Russian will prevail. An early loss will leave Wozniacki in search of validation.

Second seed, Vera Zvonareva was dealt a bad hand by the draw committee. She will meet tough Tsvetana Pironkova in the second round and five-time champion Venus Williams, the 23rd seed. Vera defeated Venus in three grueling sets at Eastbourne but the going will be tougher this time around. Venus is a money player. The winner of the Vera – Venus matchup will play eighth seed Petra Kvitova who will win this part of the draw and emerge to the semis.

Fourth seed Victoria Azarenka is clear of the Williams sisters but will run into Daniela Hantuchova in the third round and rising Russian star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkoa in the fourth round. The Russian Ravlyuchenkova should win this match with her forceful play.

The winner of the Pavlyuchenkova – Azarenka match is scheduled to play sixth seed Francesca Schiavone. However, look for German Andrea Petkovic to upset Schiavone and meet Pavlyuchenkova in the quarters. That winner will probably meet Kvitova in the semis.

The buzz centers around Serena and Venus, but look for Sharapova to meet Pavlyuchenkova in the finals. This looks like Anastasia’s tournament to win.
