Andy Roddick Defeated Sam Querrey
Top-seed Andy Roddick never had a break point against hard serving American Sam Querrey but still managed a tough three set win 2-6, 7-5 (5), 7-6 (4) in the SAP open in San Jose. Querrey was up 4-3 and serving in the second set tiebreak before Roddick ran off four straight points.
The match featured 14 aces. Querrey only lost one point on his successful first serves. Roddick was appearing in his 7th consecutive SAP semifinal. He is seeking his fourth SAP title. He is 11-2 in tiebreakers this season and 5-0 this week.
Second seeded Fernando Verdasco will challenge Roddick in the finals. The 11th ranked Spaniard mounted a rally against Uzbekistan’s Denis Isotmin 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Verdasco was successful on 71% of his first serves. Verdasco is seeking his fourth career singles title.
Verdacso will be trying to buck the odds as his lifetime record against Roddick is just 2-9. He has only won one title in the U.S. First prize is worth $90,000 and 250 South African Airways 2010 ATP points.
