The first set saw Rafael Nadal produce some high quality tennis storming off to a 3-0, 4-1 lead. He pulled off some fine volleys at the net and was soon serving for set at 5-3. Nadal overcame three breakpoints to win the set.

The beginning of the second set saw Rafael Nadal in a little spot of bother at 0-1, 0-30 on serve. Nadal fought back with some heavy ground strokes forcing errors from Dolgopolov to hold. Nadal then won 20 of the next 22 points leading 5-1, 30-0. However Dolgopolov held serve and then had 2 break points when Nadal served for match at 5-2. Nadal came up with some big serves and won the match at 6-2.

Nadal will next face David Nalbandian who upset 6th seed Jo Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 after saving a match point in the second set. The match was a fluctuating one with both players having chances but unable to close out. Nalbandian let a 2-0 lead in the first set slip to lose the set. Tsonga served for the match at 5-4 in the second set and had a match point but an unforced error gave hope to Nalbandian. He broke soon and won three games in a row to win the set at 7-5. He maintained the momentum to win the decider at 6-3.

Federer survived another three setter beating Brazilian Thomas Bellucci ranked 50 in the world 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Bellucci seemed much the stronger player in the first set as he broke early and hit some big serves when required to win the set easily. However he lost focus losing serve the very first game in the second set. Federer regained control of the match and soon had set point which he converted showing off some superb retrieving skills.

The third set was pretty even and Bellucci had a wonderful chance to win the match when he had Federer down 0-30 on serve at 4-4 but Federer hit four big serves to hold to 5-4. A lucky net cord gave Federer 15-30 lead and then couple of errors from Bellucci handed the match to Federer. He will next face Del Potro who beat Dennis Istomin in three sets.
The other quarterfinal will see American John Isner face Frenchman Gilles Simon. Isner beat Aussie Matt Ebden while Simon overcame young American sensation Ryan Harrison in three sets.
