Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark

Dane 19-year old beauty queen Caroline Wozniacki fought through a tough second set to overcome her good friend, 21-year old Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-3 in a semifinal BNP Paribas Open pairing. The match was a hard-earned win as the two friends provided a baseline battle replete with long rallies and stunning retrieves.

Wozniacki now holds a 2-1 record against the 5th seeded Pole. In the second set, Radwanska had her chances against the second seeded Dane. On two occasions she failed to break from 0-40 and she surrendered a surprising break when up 40-0.

Wozniacki, who won 67 matches on the tour last year and who will be playing for her 13th tour title at just 19 years of age, won three of eight finals last season. The stunning blonde reached the finals at the U.S. Open in 2009. With her win over her good friend and dinner partner, Caroline will move up the world ladder to the second slot just behind Serena Williams.

In an era of female superstars and loud court exclamations and flamboyant demeanor, the two stylish semifinalists gave the fans everything they wanted to see. Long points and fabulous skills often raised the crowd to their feet in the one hour 38 minute match. As the match unfolded, the Dane did seem the more composed player.

She will need all that composure and then some against a streaking former number one from Serbia, Jalena Jankovic. The sixth ranked notorious prima donna surprised Australia’s Samantha Stosur with powerful returns to win her way into the finals.

Jankovic seemed grooved on Stosur’s best serve in women’s tennis and forged a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win. The key to he match was her break in the 24 point fifth game of the first set. This is a game, Jankovic rarely wins, but the 25-year old is enjoying her best week of tennis since her win in Cincinnati last August. Her tour finals record stands at 11-11.

Wozniacki and Jankovic have met four times in the past. Jankovic has never lost to the Dane. The finals will be played Sunday.
